LEFTOVERS AND CAREERS

The other day I was heating up some fries from a restaurant the day before. They tasted disgusting and I wanted to launch them to the capital. I was mad because the day before they tasted so amazing, it was good when it was hot and now it can never reach that same taste again. Heating those fries made me think about artists and their careers, lets explore more.

Daniel Hernandez, aka, 6ix9ine.

I. HOT AS FRIES

If you don’t know who 6ix9ine is, its okay he wasn’t that important (no disrespect). However, one would be lying if I didn’t say he was scorching hot at one point. In 2017, Daniel Hernandez, better known as, Tekashi69 or 6ix9ine, took the music world by storm. His aggressive lyrics, one word song titles, and rainbow hair had New York and eventually the rest of the world on smash. In his music, 6ix9ine perpetrated images of gang culture which saturated his music and his lifestyle. He got involved with disputes with some of the most perceived toughest rappers and had ties with a lethal New York gang, all which made him a viral sensation and blew him up to pop success, even earning collaborations with megastars, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.

But just as quick as he rose to fame, he came down even quicker. Inner turmoil with the gang he was affiliated with led him to a prison sentence and eventually “snitching” to save his tide and return to society. Before he came home everyone wondered would hip-hop listen to an openly known “snitch”? Could anyone take this guy seriously ever again for acting like something he was not?

He almost proved that people would listen to him regardless. He earned the #1 song again with Nicki Minaj and was able to break YouTube records again. However that stint didn’t last long as it seemed people only cared about this young man when he was doing theatrical antics for internet clout. However, seeing someone chasing clout get tiresome after a while and his album release proved it. His album, Tattletales, did make a strong number 4 debut on the Billboard charts but shortly after that it was a ghost silence. Even now at this present moment I don’t hear anything about the young man, its almost as if he fell of the face of the earth.

His post-prison release, Tattletales, which some considers a commercial flop.

His career was like those fries from the restaurant, came in scorching hot but when it was time to heat things back up, it just didn’t hit the same.

II. THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS

Jay-Z aging gracefully

However, microwave food isn’t so bad. Take for instance thanksgiving leftovers. Yeah its not as hot and fresh as it was when it was first prepped but it still hit the next day. That’s how I think about someone like Jay-Z. Jay isn’t at his peak like he was during The Blueprint era but he always has music you can go back to and get something from. His album Vol 2. Hard Knock Life, its like a plate of macaroni and cheese you can never get enough of it. Just like when Thanksgiving is over the leftovers still slap, that’s how Jay music is. You can’t recapture the feeling when The Black Album drop but its always there, waiting for you to load it back up and its still gonna hit your soul like you want it to.

III. CONCLUSION

Artists should strive for longevity over everything, if they take the music business serious. If you only want a fleeting moment and you’d rather take all the accolades and limelight on the front end, maybe you’re just a side dish of fries, who won’t be good to anyone the next day.

But if you always want a special place in people’s heart, be something people can debate over all while being something that brings people together? Then you want to be a thanksgiving meal baby!
